Aloha! My name is Tobi Nishikawa and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist dedicated to creating a safe validating space for the clients I have the privilege of journeying with. Though I have almost 20 years of clinical experience, I still do not consider myself an expert on anyone, but instead seek to understand the uniqueness of each client, putting aside my own assumptions and biases and coming along side each client in his/her journey towards healing, growth and wholeness. Having worked mostly with marginalized persons of all ages who have experienced cumulative traumas such as, childhood abuse, bullying, racial aggression, gang violence and sexual assault, I have gained a deep understanding of the profound impact these traumatic experiences can have on a person’s mental health and well-being.
I have been extensively trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and have found it highly effective in helping to manage the emotional and behavioral dysregulation experienced by many of my clients. However, I am open to utilize various other therapeutic approaches in my work with each individual client to develop a plan that will work most effectively with him or her. Regardless of the approach, I anchor my practice in mindful, balanced, person-centered practices which are foundational to the therapeutic space. I look forward to journeying with you. Mahalo!
