Maureen E. Grizzle is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Master’s degree in Counseling and a Doctoral degree in Pastoral Care and Counseling from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa Oklahoma. Her approach to therapy considers and creates an environment in which safety and a positive therapeutic relationship is developed and maintained. Creating a safe and non-judgmental space for each client, she walks alongside each person on their unique healing journey irrespective of their background, beliefs, culture, gender, or identity. Maureen believes each individual is the expert of their own unique story and possesses inherent strengths and resources to solve and make meaning of the problems they face. She considers therapeutic relationship a collaboration where she assists in helping clients “connect the dots” as they map their life’s journey. It is her conviction that there is hope for a better story and meaningful outcomes for any situation.
Born in Nottingham, England to Jamaican parents, and having lived in three countries, Dr. Grizzle practices a contextual therapeutic model of counseling that is integrative (primarily client centered, narrative, solution-hope-focused), biopsychosocial-spiritual with a belief in the interconnectedness of the body, mind, and spirit, and based on the knowledge that there is no single approach that can treat each client in all situations. An ordained minister, she serves as co-pastor of a multi-national church where the nations represented are primarily West African, Central African, South African, Caribbean, and North American in origin. She views each person as a whole and tailors her counseling techniques to their individual needs and personal circumstances.
Culturally sensitive, Maureen has been counseling since 2006 and has extensive experience in working with diverse populations. She has experience working with individuals, couples, groups, and families. Some of her work experience has been in domestic violence, substance abuse, older adults, Christian counseling, infertility, trauma, crisis and grief. She has research expertise into fibroid tumors.
