Yasmin Mendoza is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Florida. She achieved her Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling in 1998 from Saint Thomas University in Miami Florida and earned her license to practice in 2001. She has 22 years of experience working with children, teens, young adults, and their families who have experienced traumatic events involving the child welfare system, Juvenile Justice system, and Agency for Persons with Disabilities. In her work, she has experience working with individuals suffering from depression, anxiety, attention-deficit, sexual & physical abuse, substance use/abuse, medical & physical disabilities, behavioral difficulties, academic performance, life transitions difficulties, PTSD, and developmental delays. She has a vast level of experience that will likely fit with children, teens, and adults from 7 - 40 years of age.
Ms. Mendoza's therapeutic style is mainly focused on where the clients are in their treatment process. She will always meet you where you are. But to sum up her therapeutic style, she can be observed using some of the strategies of the Solution-Focused Brief Therapy model, reality therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. In her earlier career training, she was also trained, but not fully certified, as a play therapist. In her own words: Who say adults can't play any games? Research shows that individuals who take the time to play, increased their ability to heal their bodies and minds. So let's play. Laugh a little and then diligently move towards accomplishing the personal and life goals you want to set for yourself. I am here as your support and in times, your tour guide.
I typically meet the client where they are at but I use strategies from multiple theoretical approaches such as solution-focused, play therapy, art therapy, reality therapy, CBT, and TF-CBT.
I have experience treating children, teens, and young adults suffering from behavioral issues, conduct issues, PTSD, depression, and anxiety.
