Kellie Lockwood-Rios

As a licensed marriage and family therapist, and well as a licensed addiction counselor (LAADC) I have worked in the field of addictions treatment for over 12 years, I have seen first-hand the undeniable tie between trauma and addiction. I aim to help my clients minimize behaviors that are impeding their growth, and to work towards new and healthier ways to manage life. My goal is to help my clients to live peacefully in the present, through learning from their past. I work with you to build a trusting relationship that has the ability to elicit change. I use an integrative, client centered approach that is individualized based on client needs. My approach draws from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Existential Therapy, Motivational Interviewing. I am also trained in EMDR, and utilize mindfulness practices. I enjoy collaborating with my clients to gain healthier coping skills and more flexible ways of thinking about themselves and their situations. My approach is individualized for each client, as are the goals and pace of therapy. Providing a safe space for the therapeutic relationship is the foundation of my approach. I am a warm, compassionate therapist, who aims to authentically connect with you. Working from a humanistic, strength based, client-centered approach, it allows me to connect to clients and provide a safe environment to explore areas of change that can help increase coping skills, insight and general fulfillment. I believe that present issues are often informed by conflict or trauma from our past, and we will work together to aid you in developing insight and coping skills.

I was drawn to specialize in addiction and trauma after experiencing and witnessing not only the devastating effects that is has on the lives of individuals, but also because of the incredible hope and resilience that they demonstrate in their recovery. I am grateful and inspired to be able to come to work every day, and help them on their path to recovery
