Katrina Hines-Ligon

Katrina Hines-Ligon

Katrina Hines-Ligon is a Licensed Professional Counselor and she is the owner of a private counseling practice in Tyler, Texas. She specializes in heart focused therapy, a therapeutic approach that helps individuals overcome the negative effects that stressful or traumatic life experiences have on how a person thinks, feels and behaves. She has experience helping clients with issues such as: childhood abuse (emotional, verbal, physical, sexual), not receiving enough attention, affection and nurturing in childhood, post-traumatic stress disorder, heartbreak and internal emotional brokenness recovery, relationship endings, betrayal, anxiety, depression, grief, anger, emotional abandonment, physical abandonment, career issues, and fear of public speaking.

She helps individuals identify and resolve how their past is unconsciously coming into play in their present and causing them to not feel good enough, to feel stuck, or to repeat situations in their career or personal life. Ultimately, she helps her clients find meaning in these experiences and have a more authentic connection with themselves, so they may have a more genuine connection with others.

Prior to opening her own private counseling practice, Katrina’s career includes over 12 years of experience in social services and mental health. She has worked in different areas of case management with the Texas Dept. of Family & Protective Services and as a mental health clinician for the University of Texas Medical Branch and Smith County Jail. She has also held a senior level position as the Director of Counseling at Jarvis Christian College and she previously worked as a contract counselor with Open Arms Counseling.
Katrina earned a Master of Arts in Counseling and a Master of Science in Human Science from Prairie View A&M University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Texas A&M University.

A lifelong learner, she attends many continuing education workshops each year and read books and professional journals related to mental health, therapy and wellness. She also participates in case consultation with seasoned therapist to enhance her skills and gain additional perspectives on how to help a client.

She is a member of the American Counseling Association and Texas Counseling Association. She is also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

She is the esteemed wife to Dewayne Ligon and a mother to three handsome boys.
