Gabriel Esteban Ramirez
I was born and raised in Costa Rica and I was born gay. My parents moved to California when I was 13 years old. I managed to grow up to be a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and I had no idea my life circumstances and experiences would lead me to the field of helping others. Living with hopelessness and helplessness, day and day out, from a young age, left me wondering if I belonged in this world. Being gay and growing up in a religious family, did not make things easier. My struggles pushed me to keep going and not give up on what life had to offer me. I often found myself looking for role models, counselors, friends, or just another empathetic and kind soul to tell me "everything is going to be okay" and help me make sense of all the confusing things that were taking place, within and outside of me. That's when I decided I wanted to be that person to someone else. I knew, deep inside of me, that there would be a boy I could help, someway, somehow, at some point in my life. Being a Marriage and Family Therapist, has opened the doors for me to not only help a boy with a similar walk of life as mine, but others as well. I am nothing but a vessel and with my skills, I do not fix problems, situations or change people, I can only walk beside my clients and provide assistance, support, and empathy, as they unravel and process, make sense of their feelings, emotions and thoughts, and work towards becoming a better version of themselves. My goal for my clients is to find peace and balance, with whatever situation they bring to therapy, by using their strengths and build upon them with therapy.
