Dr. Barbara Velazquez
After over 25 years of experience as a Psychologist, I have come to believe that one of the most important achievements in life is to live authentically by honoring your true self and expressing it in the world. Living an authentic congruent life means living a life that is consistent with your values. The key to living such a life is self-awareness, vision and motivation. For many, economic pressures and societal expectations make it even more difficult to take control of your destiny and be who you truly are. The inability to live authentically may contribute significantly to many mental health issues including depression, anxiety, chronic frustration and anger. Also, in the age of Corona virus, many are stressed, concerned about their health, income and how to purchase food for your families. I am experiencing the same issues and can share my stress reduction techniques with you.
Not only do I literally “talk the talk” with my clients, I also “walk the walk”. I have taken on leadership roles in various progressive organizations. I am a Trustee of the South Orange Maplewood Community Coalition on Race – an organization dedicated to creating intentional inclusion and integration where I am co-chair of the Community Engagement Committee. I am a Trustee and Executive Committee member of SOMA Action, a local organization committed to the full range of progressive causes, including social and environmental justice, and a transparent and accountable government. I am also the Co-Chair of the Racial Justice Committee of SOMA Action
